Karachi and Balochistan Police Sign Inter-Provincial Pact to Curb Vehicle Theft and Snatching

KARACHI: In a major stride against organized automotive crime, the Karachi Police and Balochistan Police have formally signed a mutual cooperation agreement to combat vehicle theft and carjacking. Driven by intelligence-sharing and data coordination, the initiative has already yielded remarkable results: 24 stolen vehicles worth over PKR 120 million have been successfully recovered from Balochistan and handed over to the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) in Karachi within just two months.

Key Highlights

AVLC SSP Khalid Mustafa Korai revealed that a vast majority of vehicles hijacked or stolen in Karachi are smuggled into Balochistan and sold at dirt-cheap prices. This breakthrough was made possible following a comprehensive data handover by the AVLC on May 26—containing records of stolen automobiles dating back to 2020—which the Balochistan Police utilized to identify, trace, and verify ownership documents before returning the assets. Building on this success, the Sindh Inspector General (IG) has initiated discussions with the Director General (DG) Safe City Punjab, and a similar framework is expected soon to track stolen vehicles moving toward Punjab and apprehend criminal syndicates more effectively.
