KARACHI: In a significant move against police high-handedness, Judicial Magistrate South Shehzad Khawaja conducted a surprise raid on the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) police station, leading to the recovery of six individuals held in unlawful detention. The raid was carried out following reports of illegal confinement at the facility. Upon arrival, the magistrate discovered six citizens locked inside a police prisoner van parked within the station premises.
During the inspection, the police failed to produce any First Information Report (FIR) or official arrest memos for the detained individuals. The victims were being kept in a vehicle rather than the official lock-up, presumably to avoid detection during routine inspections. Taking swift action, Judicial Magistrate Shehzad Khawaja ordered the immediate release of all six individuals after confirming their detention lacked any legal basis.
The Magistrate has taken a stern notice of the violation of SOPs and basic human rights, questioning the SIU officials regarding the absence of legal records. A formal report on the incident is expected to be submitted to higher judicial authorities for further disciplinary action against the officers involved.
