From Murder to Overdose: Legal Shift in Pinky Drug Case

KARACHI: Karachi police have officially altered the murder charges against notorious drug dealer Anmol, alias Pinky, shifting the case from standard murder to unintentional homicide under Section 322 (Qatl-bis-Sabab). This modification follows a crucial chemical report from Karachi University, which verified that the unidentified victim died strictly due to a drug overdose rather than targeted physical violence. The final challan was submitted by the investigating officer after a thorough legal review by District Prosecutor Asadullah Maitlo and Deputy District Prosecutor Arif Sitai, noting that because the victim remains completely unidentified, DNA profiling could not be conducted. While standard murder charges carry maximum penalties of capital punishment or life imprisonment, the application of Section 322 means the accused now faces potential liability for financial compensation (Diyat) instead of a traditional murder conviction. The FIR was originally registered by Baghdadi Police a month after the victim’s body was discovered, with the complainant having already recorded an official statement under Section 164.
