FIA Unearths Major ID Scam: Afghan Nationals Issued Fake CNICs in Karachi

KARACHI: In a major joint operation, the FIA’s Counter-Terrorism Wing, along with a sensitive intelligence agency, successfully dismantled an inter-provincial network involved in issuing illegal Pakistani Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to foreign nationals, primarily Afghan refugees. The operation, conducted in the Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi, led to the arrest of two key agents who were caught red-handed for fraudulently embedding foreign nationals into legitimate Pakistani family trees.

Preliminary investigations indicate the substantial scale of the criminal operation, as the network had already facilitated the illegal issuance of CNICs to over 40 Afghan nationals. These agents were charging an exorbitant bribe of PKR 950,000 per identity card. Further inquiries have uncovered that this is a widespread syndicate with facilitators actively operating across major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta. Consequently, a formal case has been registered against the arrested individuals, and authorities have seized critical documents and evidence. The FIA is currently conducting further raids to apprehend the remaining members of the network.
