KARACHI: A sensational case involving allegations of abducting a girl and raping 22 women reached a dramatic conclusion before a Judicial Magistrate (South) court after the investigation officer failed to provide any evidence, and the “victim” declared it a matter of free-will marriage.
During the court proceedings, Sub-Inspector Rubina Shaheen failed to present any evidence or proof regarding the shocking allegation that the accused had raped 22 girls.
The Free-Will Marriage Twist
The case took a complete turn when the allegedly abducted girl recorded her statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). In her official statement, she categorically rejected the abduction and rape charges, stating that no one abducted her and she left with Naresh of her own free will because they love each other and have legally married. She further added that the kidnapping and rape case is entirely baseless, and the police are unnecessarily harassing her and her husband.
Court’s Decision
When questioned by the magistrate regarding her custody preference, the girl stated that neither her family nor her husband’s family had any objections to the marriage, explicitly requesting to live with her husband.
Following the recording of her statement, the court granted her permission to leave with her husband. Furthermore, the court directed the accused, Naresh, to submit a surety bond of PKR 50,000 for the girl’s safety and protection. The initial case had been registered against the accused at the Napier Police Station.
