Digital Era Begins In Sindh Boards With OMR And On Screen Marking

KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet has officially approved the Sindh Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Reform Package 2026, a comprehensive 24-month roadmap aimed at modernizing the examination system and digital services across all seven educational boards in the province. As part of this digital transformation, the boards will implement Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) systems, on-screen marking, and automated result generation to completely eliminate human errors. Additionally, students will receive secure, QR-code-based digital certificates that feature online verification capabilities. To ensure experienced leadership, the maximum age limit for the appointment of educational board chairpersons has been raised from 55 to 63 years. Furthermore, the positions for the chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi and the Board of Intermediate Education Hyderabad will be re-advertised, while ensuring that all previously submitted applications remain valid. To oversee these changes, the Universities and Boards Department has been directed to promptly propose the necessary legislation to formalize these structural reforms.
