KARACHI: Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) have foiled a major smuggling attempt, recovering high-end mobile phones and electronic gadgets valued at approximately Rs 34 million. According to details, the operation was conducted at the International Arrival Terminal. Customs staff intercepted two passengers, identified as Syed Anwar and Zarqa, who arrived in Karachi from Dubai via a foreign airline.
The Recovery
The passengers were stopped based on suspicion. Upon scanning their luggage, officials discovered a large quantity of commercial-grade dutiable items hidden inside. The seized items include 64 iPhones, 26 Laptops, Apple Watches, iPads, Mac Minis, and AirPods.
Legal Action
The total market value of the recovered electronics is estimated to be around Rs 3.4 crore. Customs authorities have confiscated the goods and registered a case against the two passengers for attempting to smuggle commercial goods under the guise of personal baggage. Further investigation is currently underway.
