KARACHI: A violent clash between two student groups at Karachi University’s Sindhi Culture Department has triggered prompt legal and administrative actions. Following the unrest, the Mobina Town Police registered an FIR nominating 20 students and several unidentified suspects under charges of rioting, assault, and possession of weapons. The incident involved severe physical violence where victims were assaulted with iron rods and sticks, resulting in multiple injuries that required immediate hospitalization at Jinnah Hospital. Law enforcement responded swiftly to control the situation, arresting five suspects on the spot, and is currently analyzing CCTV footage to investigate the motives behind the clash.
In response to the security breach, the Sindh Provincial Government has actively intervened to restore order and ensure accountability. Mohammad Ismail Rahoo, the Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards, has constituted a high-level, five-member inquiry committee headed by Dr. Hussain Mehdi. This panel has been mandated to conduct a transparent, unbiased probe into the administrative and security lapses, with orders to submit a comprehensive report along with recommendations within 15 days. To prevent any further escalation and maintain a peaceful academic environment, campus security at Karachi University has been heavily reinforced.
