CDWP Approves State-of-the-Art Air Traffic Control System for Karachi Airport

KARACHI – In a significant move to modernize aviation infrastructure, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has officially approved the PC-1 for the installation of a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.

Upgrade Necessity

According to sources, the replacement of the existing system had become inevitable to maintain international safety standards. The current ATC system, which provides guidance to commercial flights, will be swapped for a more advanced setup to ensure seamless operations in one of the region’s busiest airspaces.

Key Features of the Project

The project includes the installation of a cutting-edge Flight Management System specifically for the Karachi Flight Information Region (FIR). This new Air Traffic Management (ATM) technology is designed to provide superior guidance and coordination for aircraft compared to the previous system. Furthermore, the upgrade aims to reduce technical delays and significantly enhance the overall safety and efficiency of commercial aviation in the country.

Next Steps

Following the CDWP’s approval, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is expected to invite bids through an international tender within the next few days. This project marks a major step forward in bringing Pakistan’s aviation technology in line with global advancements.
