Bus Driver Arrested for Abducting and Assaulting Traffic Constable in Karachi

KARACHI – A public transport driver was arrested after he allegedly abducted a traffic police officer, assaulted him, and attempted to snatch his weapon in the Orangi Town area, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The incident occurred near Orangi Chorangi No. 5 just before Iftar. According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Orangi Town Police Station, the case was filed on the complaint of the victim, Constable Sarfaraz Khan.

The Abduction and Crash The constable stated that a bus (registration number JF-1999) was parked in the middle of the road, causing a massive traffic jam as the driver waited for passengers. When Constable Sarfaraz ordered the driver to move the vehicle and boarded the bus through the passenger gate, the driver suddenly sped off while the conductor locked the door, trapping the officer inside. The driver drove recklessly toward Board Office, eventually crashing the bus into the Orange Line Metro track’s footpath and grills.

Violence and Injuries The constable reported that following the crash, the driver and conductor physically assaulted him. During the scuffle, they allegedly attempted to snatch his official weapon and caused a fracture to his thumb. The officer sustained internal injuries as well as wounds to his face, right hand, and knee.

Police Action The police have successfully apprehended the bus driver at the scene, while the conductor managed to escape the spot. A manhunt is currently underway to arrest the absconder, and a formal case has been registered for further investigation.
