Karachi Unveils PKR 14 Billion Mega Infrastructure Package to Rehabilitate 139 Roads

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced the implementation of one of the largest development initiatives in the city’s history, allocating PKR 14 billion to reconstruct and rehabilitate 139 roads across all districts of Karachi. Chaired at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Head Office, a high-level review meeting outlined that this comprehensive program extends far beyond basic road repairs by integrating critical urban upgrades, including the complete reconstruction of major thoroughfares, the improvement of drainage systems, the rehabilitation of water supply lines, and the installation of modern street lighting.

Mayor Wahab emphasized that Karachi is entering a transformed developmental phase, addressing years of infrastructural neglect through strategic planning, financial transparency, and targeted investments. This project forms part of a broader vision to transition Karachi into a modern, interconnected, and highly livable metropolitan city, ensuring that citizens receive the high-quality municipal services they deserve. The initiative enjoys strong backing from the Government of Sindh, with political support from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, President Asif Ali Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

To ensure success, the Mayor mandated that all projects adhere to the highest engineering standards with zero tolerance for compromise on quality. Demonstrating strict oversight and accountability, Mayor Wahab announced that he will personally monitor both the procurement process and on-ground development to guarantee that all 139 road projects are completed within one year.
