KARACHI: The legal counsel for the victim’s family, Barrister Jibran Nasir, has raised serious concerns over the ongoing police investigation into the high-profile murder of young Mir Raza in Karachi. During a media briefing regarding the judicial commission’s proceedings, Nasir highlighted critical lapses, beginning with the unresolved mystery of a continuous phone contact: the family’s legal team questioned the identity of the mysterious phone number that remained in contact with Mir Raza until his death, noting that final location data and caller details have yet to be disclosed. Furthermore, alarming procedural violations came to light when the Director-General (DG) of Health testified that the original medical board was abruptly altered under the directives of Special Health Secretary Shehryar Memon—who was ironically promoted to DG Health during the hearings—bypassing both standard procedure and judicial orders.
The investigation is further marred by the questionable involvement of ASP Nida Junaid, who reportedly managed witnesses and collected evidence despite her name being entirely absent from official case documentation. While police defended her presence based on her gender, the family noted that other female officers were already part of the investigation team. Compounding these issues, authorities have neglected crucial physical and digital evidence by failing to analyze CCTV footage from the three streets where Raza’s body was recovered, while vital geo-fencing numbers remain withheld from the public and family. Finally, raising strong objections to the formation of a “Super Medical Board” following Dr. Osama’s second statement, Nasir questioned whether administrative authorities were attempting to override or challenge the judicial magistrate’s original orders. Consequently, the legal team has formally urged the judicial commission to summon senior officials like Amir Farooq to account for these shortcomings and ensure complete transparency to bring the real culprits to justice.
