KARACHI: An out-of-court settlement has been reached in the high-profile assault case involving Professor Dr. Arif Khan Saqi of the University of Karachi. The primary suspect, Qonain Shah—who was previously out on bail—visited the professor’s residence alongside his father-in-law to offer a formal apology.
Professor Saqi graciously accepted the apology, noting that the suspect’s father had also previously intervened to seek a resolution. As part of the reconciliation terms, compensation was also provided for the damages inflicted on the vehicle belonging to the professor’s nephew during the incident.
Background: The altercation occurred on September 8 near Safora Chowrangi within the jurisdiction of the Sachal police station, where Professor Saqi, Chairman of the Islamic Learning Department, was physically assaulted by the son of the owner of Sindh Green Restaurant.
