KARACHI: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has intensified its demolition operations against dangerous and dilapidated structures across Karachi, specifically focusing on the Lyari district. According to the SBCA’s compliance report dated September 9, demolition work has been successfully completed, and debris clearance is underway at multiple plots in Khadda and Daryabad, including plots 1339, 3162, 3940, and 3146, while operations are also actively ongoing for structures located on plots 2555, 2666, and 2035 in Nawabad.
Certain operational challenges have emerged during the drive. Specifically, demolition at plot 3111 in Daryabad, located near Bilal Masjid on Street 6, faced delays due to alleged political and local interference, prompting the SBCA to take strict notice and initiate formal regulatory actions. Additionally, operations were temporarily halted at plot 415 and 415-A in Bihar Colony and on the second floor of plot 3168 in Daryabad due to active residential occupancy.
Provincial leadership, including Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and SBCA Director General Dr. Waseem Shamshad, have urgently appealed to residents to evacuate hazardous buildings immediately to prevent loss of life. Authorities emphasized that protecting public safety remains the top priority and warned that strict legal action will be enforced against anyone violating the law or obstructing official operations.
