KARACHI: The Sindh Transport Department has moved to secure provincial cabinet approval for the procurement of 500 electric buses and the establishment of a dedicated logistics park.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) board, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The session focused on expanding the mass transit network, promoting eco-friendly public transport, and alleviating heavy traffic congestion across Karachi.
Key officials attending the meeting included Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, SMTA Managing Director Behzad Memon, and DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah. Discussions centered on administrative and technical frameworks, traffic management, and accelerating ongoing and future transport initiatives.
Highlighting the significance of the upcoming projects, Minister Memon stated that the logistics park will serve as a transformative milestone for Karachi by substantially reducing heavy traffic pressure within the city and modernizing the regional logistics sector. He further emphasized that expanding the modern public transport fleet remains a core priority of the provincial government to ensure enhanced, comfortable travel facilities for commuters.
