KARACHI: Doctors at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Karachi successfully saved the life of a 12-year-old boy by performing a complex open-heart surgery to remove a bullet lodged directly in his heart.
The child, a resident of Khuzdar, was rushed to Karachi in critical condition. Upon arrival, diagnostic evaluations, including an echocardiogram, confirmed the presence of the projectile embedded within the cardiac tissue. Recognizing the life-threatening emergency, a specialized medical team led by Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Sohail Khan Bangash immediately transferred the patient to the operation theater.
The intricate cardiothoracic procedure lasted approximately two hours, during which the surgical team successfully extracted the bullet without fatal complications. Following the successful operation, the patient was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he is currently showing steady signs of recovery. The multidisciplinary surgical team included Dr. Saad Badr, Dr. Abdul Sattar Shaikh, and Prof. Amin Khawaja.
