Mir Raza Ali Exhumation Delayed; Family Protests Medical Board Changes

KARACHI: The exhumation of young Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali has been postponed due to severe objections and a lack of trust from his family regarding sudden changes to the medical board, despite all arrangements being finalized.

The victim’s father, Mir Hassan, submitted a written application to the investigating officer stating that the family strictly lacks confidence in any new medical board. They demand that the originally constituted 8-member board—led by Police Surgeon Dr. Sumaiya Syed—conduct the exhumation, threatening to block it otherwise. In response to this dispute, the investigating officer has begun recording statements from the parents and Dr. Sumaiya Syed. These statements will be submitted to the relevant judge, who will then inform the Health Secretary of the family’s grievances.

Due to weekend restrictions, as exhumations are not permitted on Saturdays and Sundays, the Health Department is anticipated to issue a new notification on Monday. Meanwhile, the family’s legal counsel criticized the authorities for issuing a retrospective third notification regarding the medical board, calling it an intentional complication. They questioned why doctors are being brought in from other cities under the pretext of a local shortage while qualified local experts are being removed without justification, further informing the magistrate that the new board is entirely unacceptable and that the process is facing deliberate delays.
