KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has approved a major restructuring of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Unit to establish a modern, transparent, and investor-friendly framework. As part of this institutional transformation, the PPP Unit is being converted into a fully government-owned private limited company registered under the Companies Act, 2017, to enhance institutional capacity and financial sustainability. This newly formed entity will succeed the current unit and take charge of PPP policy formulation, governance, project facilitation, and portfolio management with modernized oversight. To support its operations, the cabinet has approved an authorized capital of PKR 8 billion, a paid-up capital of PKR 2 billion, and an initial seed capital of PKR 500 million, while empowering the Finance Department to complete all legal and administrative formalities, with the current Director General of the PPP Unit stepping in as the company’s inaugural Chief Executive Officer. Additionally, amendments to the Sindh Public-Private Partnership Act were approved to provide a stronger legal foundation, boost private investment, and accelerate infrastructure development. Emphasizing the vision behind these changes, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that the government is actively making the PPP system more sustainable, transparent, and attractive to investors to ensure the timely completion of vital public infrastructure projects across the province.
