KARACHI – The prices of solar panels, inverters, and lithium batteries have dropped significantly in Karachi’s electronics market, providing major relief to consumers. According to market sources, solar plates have decreased by up to Rs. 3,000 per plate, while lithium batteries have seen a reduction of around Rs. 20,000, and inverters have become cheaper by up to Rs. 10,000 compared to previous weeks. Currently, 585W, 645W, and 720W solar plates are retailing at approximately Rs. 45 per watt, down from the previous rate of Rs. 50 per watt. Additionally, a 5 kW lithium battery is now available at around Rs. 230,000, while the prices for 3 to 5 kW inverters are ranging between Rs. 120,000 and Rs. 300,000.
This sharp decline in prices comes after a period of artificial inflation, where traders and hoarders hiked rates and stockpiled inventory due to pre-budget rumors of increased taxes. However, the market situation completely reversed when the federal government decided not to impose any additional taxes on solar systems in the budget. This tax relief, combined with an influx of imports and a temporary dip in consumer demand, created an ample market supply that forced dealers to slash prices. Traders predict that if the current supply chain remains steady and market demand does not sharply spike, solar product prices will either maintain their stability or potentially decrease even further in the coming days.
