KARACHI: In a major stride toward urban safety and disaster management, the Karachi administration is digitizing its fire safety protocols. Presided over by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, a high-level meeting concluded with the launch of a dedicated mobile application and digital dashboards designed to track and streamline fire safety audits across the metropolis.
Developed by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), this new digital infrastructure has already gone live, mapping data from completed fire safety audits for over 800 shopping malls and commercial buildings across the city. To ensure a swift and precise response during emergencies, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and ABAD will maintain dedicated dashboards where building completion plans and blueprints will be uploaded for instant access by rescue teams.
Furthermore, the administration is expanding this safety net into Cantonment Board jurisdictions, where Assistant Commissioners will supervise dedicated committees to accelerate the remaining surveys. With the Commissioner ordering a swift completion of the pending audits, the authorities have already cracked down on non-compliant structures, issuing formal warning notices to all commercial buildings and malls failing to meet standard fire safety regulations.
