In response to persistent complaints regarding administrative, financial, and human resource mismanagement—coupled with ongoing faculty protests in Karachi—the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has officially constituted a high-level investigative committee to probe the affairs of the Federal Urdu University. The decision was formalized via an official notification issued under the direct orders of HEC Chairman, Dr. Niaz Ahmad, building upon a prior governance and HR audit initiated in August 2025.
This newly formed committee is strictly mandated to conduct a thorough follow-up review of the university’s governance, financial management, and administrative grievances, evaluating whether previously identified loopholes have been rectified or if the situation has further deteriorated. The high-level probe panel comprises Nazir Hussain (Advisor IT, HEC), Aftab Rashid (Joint Secretary PT, Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training), Hameed Niazi (Joint Secretary HE, Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training), and Hammad bin Saif (Assistant Director Coordination, HEC). This committee has been directed to submit a comprehensive supplementary report, including realistic situational assessments and actionable recommendations, within 30 days to address the severe governance deficits threatening the university’s academic stability.
