Wheels Back on Track: Karachi Transport Strike Ends After Successful Govt Talks

KARACHI: The Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) has officially announced the end of its three-day city-wide strike, with public transport set to resume normal operations starting tomorrow. This major breakthrough came after a successful high-level meeting between KTI representatives and the Commissioner of Karachi to address the transport sector’s grievances. During the decisive talks, the government accepted the transporters’ key demand by granting a two-month extension for the biometric verification process during vehicle transfers, while also assuring them that the issue regarding the PKR 12,000 third-party insurance payment would be resolved. Furthermore, both parties mutually agreed to reconvene in fifteen days to review the progress of these commitments. Moving forward, the Karachi Transport Ittehad plans to hold a consultative meeting with its member organizations very soon to discuss the government’s assurances and outline their next steps.
