KARACHI: Motorists and motorcyclists traveling on Shara-e-Faisal need to be extra vigilant as the Karachi Traffic Police has launched a major crackdown against lane violations using advanced technology. To ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize accidents on the city’s busiest artery, a “faceless” enforcement system has officially been put into action.
According to DIG Traffic, Pir Muhammad Shah, the public awareness phase regarding the new regulations has concluded. Starting today, the digital e-ticketing system is fully operational. Rather than traffic wardens physically stopping vehicles, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and high-definition cameras will monitor the highway. Any driver or rider violating the designated lanes will automatically receive a fine at their registered address.
“Citizens must strictly adhere to traffic rules to avoid accidents and ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. Instead of stopping violators on the road, automated challans will now be sent directly to the vehicle owner’s home,” DIG Pir Muhammad Shah warned.
Under the new regulations, traffic police have specified exact lanes for different vehicle types. All commercial vehicles, including buses, rickshaws, and loaders, as well as motorcycles, are now strictly required to use the first two lanes on the left side of the road. Meanwhile, the two lanes on the right side have been dedicated exclusively to high-speed private cars. On segments of Shara-e-Faisal where the road narrows down to a total of three lanes, the middle lane can be shared jointly by both commercial and private vehicles. Motorists are advised to drive responsibly and stay in their designated lanes to avoid heavy fines delivered straight to their doorstep.
