KARACHI: Following reports of systemic corruption and irregularities within the province’s educational boards, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has ordered the immediate formation of a high-level reforms committee to overhaul the examination and administrative systems. The Department of Universities and Boards issued a formal notification on Monday, outlining the committee’s mandate to investigate and propose structural changes within 60 days.
Mandate and Scope of Reforms
The committee is tasked with a comprehensive review of the Intermediate Boards across Sindh, focusing on evaluating the current legal and administrative frameworks and inspecting assessment methods, paper confidentiality, and the result preparation process. It will work to identify loopholes that damage the credibility of the board examinations and suggest reforms for automation and institutional efficiency to ensure transparency and accountability.
Committee Composition
The committee will be headed by Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi (Chairman, Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee). Other prominent members include Dr. Hussain Mehdi (VC, Lyari University), Dr. Naveed Yousuf (Head of Aga Khan Board), Abbas Baloch (Secretary, Universities and Boards), and Noman Ahsan (Secretary, Sindh HEC). The notification further clarifies that the committee holds the authority to co-opt any subject matter expert as a sixth member if required.
Timeline for Action
The Chief Minister, who currently serves as the partial controlling authority of the boards, has directed the body to submit its final report and actionable recommendations within two months. This initiative aims to strengthen service delivery and restore public trust in the provincial examination system through comprehensive institutional reforms.
