KARACHI: In a major move to upgrade the city’s crumbling infrastructure, the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Finance has approved Rs. 13 billion for the restoration and reconstruction of roads across all 24 Towns of Karachi. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, with provincial ministers Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar and Saeed Ghani in attendance.
Key Allocations and Projects The approved Rs. 13 billion will allow Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) to carry out reconstruction, patch-work, and upgrading of broken streets and major arteries. Additionally, a special grant of Rs. 364 million was sanctioned for emergency repairs of the aging sewage pumping station in the Korangi Industrial Area. The committee also approved Rs. 1.25 billion for laying a new 32-inch diameter pipeline along the Lyari Expressway. Further funds were earmarked for the renovation of educational institutions, courts, and hospitals to improve basic public facilities.
Strict Monitoring and Timelines Minister Nasir Hussain Shah directed officials to accelerate the pace of work, emphasizing that the restoration of Karachi’s urban fabric is a top priority. He further clarified that no irregularities in the utilization of these funds would be tolerated, and all ongoing schemes must be completed within the specified timelines to provide immediate relief to the citizens.
