KARACHI – The provincial capital is currently gripped by an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring to 43°C by 1:00 PM today, leaving citizens struggling against the blistering heat and dry conditions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city is experiencing a unique weather pattern where the humidity level has dropped to a mere 7%. While the actual temperature reached 43°C, the low humidity caused the “feel-like” temperature to hover around 38°C earlier in the afternoon. However, during the peak hours, the heat index is expected to feel as high as 45°C.
Weather Conditions and Sea Breeze The actual temperature was recorded at 43°C at 1:00 PM, while the minimum temperature remained 29°C. Winds are currently blowing from the north-west at a speed of 19 km/h. Humidity levels fluctuated from 27% in the morning to 7% in the afternoon. The traditional sea breeze, which usually regulates Karachi’s temperature, remained suspended throughout the afternoon. Hot and dry winds from the north and northwest have dominated the city’s atmosphere, though residents can expect some relief by evening when the sea breeze is likely to resume.
Comparative Data and Outlook The intense heat started early today, with the mercury already hitting 41°C by 11:00 AM. This follows a taxing Sunday where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.9°C with 52% humidity, creating a suffocating heat index. Looking ahead, the PMD predicts the maximum temperature for Tuesday to range between 37°C and 39°C, while Wednesday is expected to be between 36°C and 38°C.
Safety Advisory Health experts and the PMD advise citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. It is highly recommended to stay hydrated and use protective gear like umbrellas or caps if going outside. Extreme heat and dry conditions are expected to persist across most parts of Sindh.
