KARACHI: Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, Azad Khan, has constituted a three-member high-level inquiry committee following a written complaint by a citizen alleging investigative bias and police misconduct.
The Complaint
The complainant, identified as Mirza Ghazanfar Baig, approached the Karachi Police Chief expressing dissatisfaction with the investigation of FIR No. 235/2026 (Section 489-F) registered at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station. Baig alleged that his daughter was being blackmailed by her former fiancé after their engagement ended. Despite registering a case (FIR No. 238/2026) at the Ferozabad police station regarding the blackmailing, no progress was made. Furthermore, he claimed the former fiancé, in collusion with the Investigating Officer (IO), managed to implicate his daughter in a “fictitious and baseless” case.
Evidence and Committee Formation
The citizen provided CCTV footage and documentary evidence to support his claims of foul play. Taking prompt notice, AIG Azad Khan formed an inquiry team led by SSP District East, Zubair Nazir Sheikh. The committee also includes SP Investigation-I East and SP Gulshan-e-Iqbal Division.
Mandate
The Karachi Police Chief has directed the committee to conduct an impartial probe into the role of the police officers involved and scrutinize all facts of the case. The committee is bound to submit its comprehensive report within three days.
