KARACHI – In a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s healthcare sector, the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially recognized the standards of the Central Drug Testing Laboratory (CDL) Karachi, granting it the prestigious “Pre-qualification” status. The WHO communicated this milestone in a formal letter addressed to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), confirming that the testing protocols at CDL Karachi now align perfectly with international quality benchmarks.
The accreditation comes after DRAP successfully implemented a series of reforms and recommendations previously suggested by the WHO team during a rigorous inspection conducted in January. The WHO confirmed that CDL’s testing standards meet global norms, and they expressed satisfaction over the reforms initiated by DRAP, noting that the laboratory is now fully equipped to ensure the safety and efficacy of medicinal products according to world-class standards.
This development is set to provide a major boost to Pakistan’s pharmaceutical exports. With the WHO seal of approval, medicines tested and certified by CDL Karachi will gain higher credibility globally, opening doors to more competitive international markets and significantly improving Pakistan’s ranking in the global pharmaceutical industry.
