Pakistani Citizen from Karachi Killed in Israeli Strike on Iranian Port, Family Awaits Body

KARACHI – The family of Yasir Khan, a resident of Karachi’s Mauripur area, is in deep mourning as they await the repatriation of his body from Iran. Yasir was killed during an Israeli missile strike targeting the Iranian port of Chabahar last month.

The Incident

Yasir Khan, a resident of Younusabad in District Keamari, had moved to Iran six months ago to work on a tugboat at Chabahar Port. According to his brother, Wajid Khan, the tragic incident occurred on March 23 during a missile strike. The news reached the family on March 24 through Subhanullah, Yasir’s roommate and colleague from Karachi’s Banaras area, who was injured in the same attack.

“Subhan called us from an Iranian number late at night. He was in the hospital and told us that Yasir had been martyred. The boat was hit, and those on board fell into the water,” Wajid shared.

A Search Amidst Conflict

Due to the ongoing conflict and severe network outages in the region, the family struggled to get updates. It was later revealed that Yasir’s body remained in the water for four days before it was recovered and identified. Yasir’s last communication with his family was via video call during Ramadan. He had expressed concerns about the escalating war and pleaded for help to return home. Despite the family’s efforts to contact the employment agent and relevant authorities, no immediate help was provided.

A Future Cut Short

Yasir was the sole breadwinner for his wife and young children, seeking a better future abroad. He was serving a nine-month contract and had only three months remaining before his scheduled return to Karachi. Friends describe him as a kind-hearted man who never missed a day speaking to his parents.

Repatriation and Support

Yasir’s brothers and relatives have reached the Taftan border to complete legal formalities for the handover of the body. Faisal Edhi, head of the Edhi Foundation, confirmed that their camp at the Taftan border is on standby. Our volunteers are ready, and arrangements have been made to transport Yasir’s body from the border to Karachi.

The grieving family has appealed to the President of Pakistan, the Governor, and the Chief Minister of Sindh to provide financial assistance to secure the future of Yasir’s widow and orphaned children.
