KARACHI – A high-level inquiry committee, headed by Additional IG CTD Zulfiqar Larik, has formally launched an investigation into the violent riots outside the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, which resulted in 11 deaths and left over 30 others injured.
According to details, the committee was formed to determine the sequence of events and assess the security response during the unrest. The first session of the probe saw several high-ranking police officials appear before the committee to record their statements.
Key Officials Summoned
Among those who presented themselves before the inquiry head were DIG South Asad Raza and DIG East Farrukh Lanjar. They were accompanied by SSP Amjad Sheikh, SSP South Mahzoor Ali, SSP City Arif Aziz, and SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh.
Evidence and Documentation
During the proceedings, SSP Amjad Sheikh provided a comprehensive briefing on the incident. The committee was also presented with video footage of the rioting outside the consulate.
Sources indicate that the investigators are currently analyzing CCTV footage to identify the agitators and the escalation points. They are also reviewing the police deployment to evaluate whether the security presence and response were adequate at the time of the incident.

The committee has been tasked with a swift investigation. More officers are expected to be summoned in the coming days, and a final, detailed report must be submitted to the Interior Minister within seven days.
