K-IV Project: Work Accelerated at NIPA to Ensure Timely Completion

KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has decided to fast-track the K-IV pipeline project under the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP). To meet the project deadline, a new target has been set to lay two large-diameter pipes daily at the NIPA intersection.

Technical Challenges and Progress

According to a KWSC spokesperson, the pipeline is being laid within a 2.7 km shared corridor alongside the BRT Red Line. Despite immense technical and safety complexities, the project has entered its final stages. The excavation, reaching depths of 6 meters, is being carried out in a high-density area congested with underground water and sewerage lines, high-pressure gas mains, and K-Electric high-tension cables. In some sections, the team is working within a constrained space of just five feet. Despite temporary delays in November due to utility damages, the team has successfully installed 36 pipes to date.

Commitment to Public Convenience

CEO Water Corporation Ahmed Ali Siddiqui acknowledged the difficulties faced by local residents, shopkeepers, commuters, and students due to the ongoing excavation. He assured that modern excavation techniques are being used to safeguard public infrastructure and minimize disruptions. He stated that the timely and quality completion of the K-IV project remains the top priority, appreciating Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah’s special interest and recent visit to the site.

Project Impact

The K-IV project is a flagship infrastructure initiative by the Sindh Government and KWSC, aimed at providing an additional 260 million gallons of water per day (MGD) to Karachi. To maintain transparency, KWSC will continue to share daily progress updates via its official website and social media platforms.
