KARACHI – In a bid to elevate the city’s recreational standards, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has chaired a high-level meeting of the Recreation Department to review and improve the Karachi Zoo and Safari Park. The meeting, held at the KMC Head Office, focused on enhancing wildlife welfare, administrative efficiency, and financial autonomy for the city’s primary recreational spots.
In a significant move to ensure a peaceful environment for wildlife, the Mayor directed the separation of amusement rides from animal enclosures at Karachi Zoo. This step aims to reduce noise pollution and stress for the animals while improving crowd management. Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized that protecting animals and upgrading their living conditions is a top priority, instructing officials to ensure that international standards of wildlife care are met.
To promote an eco-friendly environment, the Mayor also ordered the launch of organic farming and a massive plantation drive within the Karachi Zoo premises. Furthermore, the meeting reached a consensus to grant more administrative and financial powers to the managements of Karachi Zoo and Safari Park to ensure smoother operations and faster decision-making. Stringent instructions were also issued to maintain high standards of cleanliness and robust security across all public parks and recreational centers.
“While citizens have noticed the recent positive changes at these venues, our mission to provide world-class facilities continues. We are committed to making Karachi’s recreational spaces greener, safer, and more organized,” said Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
The Mayor concluded by stating that the separation of recreational activities from animal habitats would not only instill better discipline but also provide a more authentic experience for visitors and a safer haven for the wildlife.
