KARACHI: Just days before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, a major water crisis has gripped the provincial capital, leaving citizens in deep distress.
The Incident
According to details, the crisis was triggered by a massive leak in the 84-inch diameter main supply line near Shanti Nagar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The breach led to a significant suspension of water supply across various parts of the city.
Restoration Status
Water Corporation officials confirmed that the repair work on the damaged pipeline has been completed, and pumping from the Dhabeji Pumping Station has officially resumed.
Timeline for Recovery
While the supply is back on track, officials have cautioned that it takes approximately 18 hours for water to travel from Dhabeji to Karachi’s local reservoirs. Consequently, regular supply to residential areas is expected to normalize starting tomorrow.
Citizen Impact
The timing of the shortage has sparked concerns among residents who are preparing for the month of fasting. While the Water Corporation claims the situation will soon be under control, many neighborhoods continue to face dry taps and are forced to rely on expensive private water tankers.
