KARACHI: In a move to ensure smooth traffic flow during the holy month of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic, Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, has officially cancelled the leaves of all traffic personnel. The decision followed reports highlighting potential congestion issues, prompting the DIG to issue a formal directive. The primary goal is to maintain a disciplined flow of vehicles across the city’s major arteries during peak hours.
DIG Traffic emphasized that a heavy presence of officers is mandatory on the roads during the hours leading up to Iftar to prevent gridlocks. Furthermore, during the last ten days of Ramadan, additional deployment will be focused around shopping centers and markets to manage the influx of shoppers and parking issues.
According to the notification, no leaves will be granted to any official except in cases of extreme emergency, and all unit heads have been instructed to ensure the strict implementation of these orders. The Traffic Police department aims to minimize the hardship of commuters who often face grueling delays during the fasting month due to disorganized parking and high traffic volume.
