KARACHI – In a major breakthrough for the country’s healthcare sector, Pakistan’s first-of-its-kind modern Vascular Hybrid Suite has been inaugurated at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Institute of Trauma, Karachi. The facility aims to provide advanced surgical interventions to prevent limb amputations in patients suffering from diabetes, ulcers, and vascular diseases.
Revolutionizing Vascular Surgery
The suite was officially inaugurated by Sindh Health Minister, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho. Speaking to the media, the minister highlighted that this facility marks a revolutionary step in vascular surgery. She noted that the primary goal is to save the limbs of diabetic and ulcer patients through timely and advanced surgical procedures. Dr. Pechuho credited the success to the tireless efforts of specialist doctors and the provincial government’s commitment to modernizing health infrastructure.
Directives for Improvement
While celebrating the new facility, the Health Minister expressed her dissatisfaction with the performance of the Neurosurgery Department. She issued strict directives to Dr. Sabir Memon to overhaul the department immediately, emphasizing that the Neurosurgery unit must remain functional 24/7 to cater to emergencies.
Addressing Public Health Concerns
Dr. Pechuho also touched upon critical urban issues affecting Karachi. Expressing concern over the rising cases of dog bites, she stated that controlling the population of stray dogs is the responsibility of the Local Government. Furthermore, to meet the needs of Karachi’s growing population, she announced the establishment of two more modern trauma centers in the city.
A Revolutionary Milestone
According to Dr. Sabir Memon, the V-Tech Hybrid Vascular Suite is a game-changer. It integrates traditional open surgery with minimally invasive endovascular procedures in one space, significantly reducing risks for patients with arterial diseases and trauma-related injuries.
