KARACHI – The Government of Sindh has finalized all arrangements to host the prestigious Asia-Pacific Shelter and Settlements Forum (APSSF) 2026, scheduled to take place from February 12 to 14 in the provincial capital. This landmark event will bring together over 600 delegates from 41 countries, including international humanitarian organizations, urban planning experts, environmentalists, and disaster risk management specialists.
Event Highlights
The forum, themed “Promoting Global Cooperation for Inclusive and Climate-Resilient Housing and Communities,” will feature 26 technical sessions covering policy-making and innovative settlement strategies. Approximately 115 global speakers will share insights on resilient housing and humanitarian aid, making it a vital platform to tackle large-scale displacement and climate insecurity across the region.
Sindh’s Leadership in Climate Resilience
The selection of the Sindh Government as the regional convener highlights its global leadership in climate-adaptive reconstruction. This is spearheaded by the Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) project—the world’s largest housing recovery program—which is currently constructing 2.1 million disaster-resilient homes for families affected by the 2022 floods.
“By hosting APSSF 2026, Sindh is positioning itself as a hub for climate-secure housing solutions in the region,” said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. “Through SPHF, we have proven that large-scale sustainable recovery is possible. This forum allows us to share our expertise and learn from global innovators to shape the future of humanitarian development.”
Strategic Partnership
The forum is being organized by the Government of Sindh and SPHF, with the critical support of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). As the Asia-Pacific region faces increasing hydrological and geological threats, APSSF 2026 aims to create actionable, long-term solutions for safer settlements through innovation and international collaboration.
