Sindh Govt Issues New Standing Order for Licensed Weapons: No More Carry Permits Required

KARACHI – The Sindh Home Department has issued a fresh standing order streamlining the regulations for computerized arms license holders across the province. The move aims to clarify the legalities of carrying licensed weapons and reduce unnecessary hurdles for citizens.

According to the official notification, individuals possessing a valid computerized arms license are now permitted to carry their weapons without the need for any additional documentation or a separate ‘carry permit.’ However, the order emphasizes that the weapon must be concealed and not displayed publicly. Under the new rules, license holders no longer require a special carry permit to move with their registered weapon, though the open exhibition of firearms remains strictly prohibited.

The directive also clarifies the role of the ‘retainer’ mentioned on the license, stating that they are authorized to carry the weapon only if the actual license holder is physically present with them. The Sindh Home Department has formally notified the Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Pakistan Rangers, and all Divisional Commissioners to ensure the immediate implementation of these orders. This directive is expected to resolve frequent disputes between license holders and law enforcement agencies during routine snap-checking in the city.
