High-Stakes Standoff: Pakistan Hints at India Boycott as T20 World Cup Drama Intensifies

ISLAMABAD – The fate of Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup, particularly the high-voltage match against arch-rivals India, hangs in the balance as a final decision is expected to be reached today. According to sources close to the development, Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is scheduled to consult with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today. The high-level meeting will determine whether the national team will participate in the mega-event or opt for a protest-based withdrawal.

While a total tournament withdrawal is on the table, sources suggest a stronger proposal is being considered: participating in the World Cup but specifically boycotting the match against India. This tension follows Chairman Naqvi’s recent support for the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s refusal to play in India. The PCB Chairman has openly criticized the International Cricket Council (ICC) for what he terms “double standards,” asserting that Pakistan stands by principled positions regarding neutral venues and fair treatment.

The cricketing world is now closely watching the Prime Minister’s House. A decision to boycott would not only impact the tournament’s viewership but also create a significant diplomatic ripple in the sporting world. If the boycott of the India match is finalized, it will be a historic first for the tournament’s most-anticipated fixture.
