KARACHI – As the rescue operation at the fire-ravaged Gul Plaza enters its seventh day, officials have shared grim updates regarding the recovery of victims. KMC Fire Officer Zafar Khan informed the media that rescuers are now recovering human bones from the debris instead of intact bodies, due to the intensity of the fire and the passage of time.
Current Status of the Operation
The Fire Officer stated that while the building’s structure has become extremely precarious, the search for those trapped under the rubble remains ongoing. He confirmed that a fresh fire, which broke out in a diesel tank located in the basement, has been successfully extinguished. Currently, 67 deaths have been confirmed while 77 individuals remain missing. The operation is 85% complete, with 15 victims identified normally and 8 through DNA testing.
Official Statements
Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi Khoso, addressed the media, stating that the final list of missing persons stands at 77. He urged anyone with further information on missing individuals to contact the authorities immediately. He noted that the search operation is being conducted under the strict supervision of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and is expected to be completed today.
Logistics and Disposal
The debris cleared from the site is being systematically transported to the Mewa Shah Cemetery in Pak Colony. Despite the structural risks, rescue teams continued their search deep into the night to provide closure to the families of the missing.
