KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to ensure the completion of the Malir River Bridge project by May 2026, emphasizing that no compromise will be tolerated on the quality of development work.
Site Inspection and Progress Report
Following the Chief Minister’s directives, a specialized team from the Planning and Development (P&D) Department visited the construction site at Malir River and inspected the N-5 (Murghi Khana) bridge in Quaidabad.
According to the briefing provided to the Chief Minister:
- Total Project Cost: $3,006.690$ million PKR.
- Physical Progress: The project is currently 65% complete.
- Financial Utilization: 61.6% of the allocated funds have been utilized so far.
Technical Evaluation
The P&D team informed the Chief Minister that the pace of work remains satisfactory. To ensure structural integrity, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) was conducted on-site to verify concrete strength. Additionally, precise measurements of the girders and transoms were carried out to meet engineering standards.
Directives to K-Electric and Material Supply
Taking notice of technical hurdles, CM Murad Ali Shah instructed officials to issue formal letters to K-Electric regarding delays in the relocation of utility services, which has been hindering progress.
He further ordered the immediate stockpiling of gravel and aggregate base for the ramps, stating that the timely availability of construction materials is crucial for meeting the May 2026 deadline.
