KARACHI – A six-year-old boy, who was allegedly tortured by his teacher at a Madrasa in Manghopir last month, passed away at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Wednesday.
The Incident The victim, identified as Hassan, was a student at a religious seminary in Aziz Brohi Goth. According to his father, Habib-ur-Rehman, the incident occurred on November 30, 2024, when the teacher, Qari Allah Bachayo, allegedly struck the child on the head with a wooden stick. The impact was so severe that it fractured the child’s skull.
Medical Battle Hassan’s family initially took him to a local clinic, where X-rays revealed a fractured skull. He was later rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and eventually moved to the pediatric ward at JPMC. “My son would wake up screaming in pain during his treatment,” the grieving father shared, demanding justice for his late child.
Legal Developments SHO Manghopir, Khush Nawaz, stated that a case was originally registered for causing injury, and the teacher was arrested. However, the suspect was later released on bail.
“Following the child’s death, we are now adding Section 302 (murder) and other relevant clauses to the FIR. We will move to re-arrest the accused immediately,” the SHO confirmed.
Family’s Plea The victim’s uncle expressed outrage over the teacher’s justification that the child was being “naughty.” “Children are naturally mischievous, but that does not give a teacher the right to break their skull with a stick. We demand the severest punishment so that no other parent has to lose their child this way,” he said.
The family stated they would proceed with further legal action following the child’s burial.
