KARACHI – Taking a strict stance against environmental pollution, the Sindh government has decided to initiate criminal proceedings and register First Information Reports (FIRs) against anyone caught burning garbage on the city’s main roads.
High-Level Decision
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), chaired by Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah. The meeting was attended by Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, the Secretary of Local Government, the Managing Director of SSWMB, and various Town and UC Chairmen.
Strict Enforcement
The meeting resolved that no one would be exempt from this crackdown. Minister Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized that FIRs will be lodged against violators, regardless of whether they are private citizens or employees of any government institution.
The Managing Director of SSWMB provided a detailed briefing during the session, highlighting how garbage burning significantly contributes to the city’s deteriorating air quality and poses health risks to residents.
