KARACHI: In a joint intelligence-based operation, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police successfully targeted an extortion network in the Mewa Shah Graveyard area of Site Town, Karachi. Following an exchange of gunfire, law enforcement agencies apprehended three suspects, two of whom sustained injuries during the encounter, while the third was arrested unharmed. The arrested individuals have been identified as Muhammad Rehan, Tufail Ahmed (aka Ustad), and Abdul Rahim (aka RK), with all three linked to notorious Lyari criminal factions, specifically the Bilal Pappu and Mama Yaqoob gangs.
According to officials, Muhammad Rehan joined the Mama Yaqoob gang after starting at a narcotics den in 2025, and he was actively involved in extorting scrap market traders, creating panic through targeted shootings, and opening fire on law enforcement on September 10, 2026. Tufail Ahmed has a criminal record dating back to 2013, having previously operated within street crime networks targeting bank customers, while Abdul Rahim was implicated in both extortion schemes and multiple street crime offenses alongside his gang associates. This joint crackdown delivers a significant blow to organized extortion rings operating within the region.
