PTA Cracks Down on Telecom Operators Over Poor Network Quality, Issues 30-Day Ultimatum

KARACHI: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken strict notice of substandard mobile services and poor network coverage across the country, issuing a 30-day ultimatum to all cellular mobile operators (CMOs) to rectify technical deficiencies and improve overall service quality. Under the directive, operators are required to identify service flaws, determine root causes, and submit a comprehensive Corrective Action Plan (CAP) within 30 days to ensure consumers receive seamless telecommunication services. PTA explicitly warned that failure to comply with these standards within the stipulated timeframe will result in severe legal and regulatory consequences.

This decisive move follows a history of enforcement, where official documents reveal that PTA has imposed cumulative fines worth PKR 3.41 billion on mobile companies over the past four years for Quality of Service (QoS) and coverage violations, alongside issuing 20 warning letters and 86 show-cause notices. Reaffirming its commitment to consumer welfare, the regulator emphasized that network performance across the country remains under continuous monitoring to ensure effective regulatory compliance.
