KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has taken a decisive step to combat misinformation by partnering with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). During a high-level Information Department meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, alongside officials including Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Shaikh and DG Information Moiz Pirzada, the provincial government made it clear that the propagation of fake and misleading news targeting individuals or institutions will no longer be tolerated. To enforce this, formal assistance is being sought from the NCCIA to take strict legal action against the creators and disseminators of fake news. The Information Department will utilize modern technology to monitor mainstream and social media on a daily basis, ensuring real-time identification, verification, and timely countermeasures through a robust monitoring framework established in collaboration with the NCCIA. Alongside curbing disinformation, the department has also been directed to leverage modern media channels to promote a positive and constructive narrative for the Sindh government—one centered on peace, tolerance, inter-provincial harmony, and national unity—while incorporating representatives from all segments of society into the dialogue.
