KARACHI: Goods transporters in Pakistan have announced a 5 percent increase in freight charges following the latest hike in petroleum prices. Malik Shahzad Awan, President of the Goods Transporters Association, strongly condemned the frequent upward revisions in fuel prices, labeling the trend unacceptable, and urged the government to roll back the decision immediately.
Addressing the broader context, the association noted that their previous nationwide strike was deferred for 40 days based on government assurances; however, most of their core demands remain unaddressed. Transporters have issued a formal warning that if concrete progress is not made within the stipulated timeframe, they will resume nationwide strike action.
