KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant and historic hydrocarbon discovery in the Sujawal District of Sindh. Located in the operated Surani Block at the Dolphin discovery well, this marks the country’s first successful high-quality gas find near a coastal and marshland environment. Representing a historic milestone, this is the first-ever hydrocarbon discovery from the Chiltan Formation of the Jurassic-age Lower Indus Basin. This breakthrough successfully confirms the presence of a viable petroleum system, opening up exciting new exploration frontiers across onshore marshlands and potential shallow offshore extensions.
