KARACHI: In a landmark development for Pakistan’s maritime trade and green energy sector, Karachi Port has successfully received its first-ever Roll-On/Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) shipment, carrying over 2,000 advanced electric vehicles (EVs). The massive cargo vessel, MV Grande Shanghai, docked smoothly at the KGTM L Terminal under the direct supervision of the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry. This historic arrival marks a significant leap forward in Pakistan’s transition toward sustainable, eco-friendly transportation while showcasing the rapid modernization of the country’s port infrastructure.
The adoption of the Ro-Ro shipping method represents a major upgrade in operational efficiency, as vehicles are driven directly onto and off the vessel. This streamlined process drastically reduces loading and unloading times, minimizes overall logistics costs, and ensures the maximum safety of the imported vehicles. According to Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, this milestone not only strengthens Pakistan’s trade capacity but also positions Karachi Port as a competitive, world-class shipping hub capable of delivering state-of-the-art maritime services.
