Search Grid Expands in 10,000-Foot Deep Waters After Cargo Crash

KARACHI: Following a cargo plane crash near Ormara, the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) have launched a massive joint search and rescue operation. This high-stakes mission involves an extensive fleet of specialized assets, including naval warships, Sea King helicopters, Defender aircraft, Naval ATRs, and expert navy divers operating underwater. To maximize the chances of recovery, authorities have expanded the search grid by an additional 15 to 20 nautical miles, though the five cockpit crew members remain missing. To assist in the effort, continuous communication is being maintained with local fishing boats and commercial vessels in the area to gather any potential evidence.

The ongoing operation is being conducted under extreme environmental conditions, with naval teams battling rough weather, heavy swells, and zero-visibility night operations. Because the crash site sits at a staggering depth of approximately 3,000 meters (around 10,000 feet), the recovery process is exceptionally complex and demands advanced deep-sea technology and highly specialized skills. Officials have noted that locating floating debris does not confirm the aircraft’s final position, as strong ocean currents and winds continuously displace materials. Highlighting the extreme difficulty of such deep-water recoveries, experts compared the situation to the historical MH370 search, emphasizing that the Pakistan Navy’s swift, resolute, and highly professional response demonstrates its exceptional capabilities despite these immense maritime hurdles.
