KARACHI: In a significant move to bolster Karachi’s emergency response and firefighting capabilities, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated newly rehabilitated, modern fire stations in Gulistan-e-Johar and Bolton Market. This initiative is part of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) comprehensive strategy to modernize the city’s rescue infrastructure and ensure rapid assistance for citizens. A major highlight of this project is the historic restoration of the Gulistan-e-Johar fire station, which had been abandoned and inactive for nearly thirty years but has now been completely transformed into a fully functional emergency response center. Reflecting on Karachi’s history of devastating fire incidents, the Mayor emphasized that robust infrastructure and superior preparedness are critical for the metropolis. To ensure long-term safety, KMC, in collaboration with the Government of Sindh, is actively upgrading existing facilities and procuring advanced firefighting machinery and high-tech equipment. This development marks a crucial milestone in shifting Karachi’s emergency services toward a highly prepared, modern, and proactive system.
